CloudKey is a US-based public cloud platform built for performance, resilience, and simplicity — without the complexity or unpredictable costs of hyperscaler environments. Laura O’Connor shares how CloudKey is positioning itself as the infrastructure partner the esports industry has been waiting for.
Please introduce yourself and CloudKey’s role in providing technology solutions for esports.
CloudKey is a multi-site, highly available public cloud platform built for businesses that need performance and resilience without hyperscaler complexity or unpredictable costs. We handle compute, storage, hosting, backup, and disaster recovery across a fully automated infrastructure rooted in US data sovereignty and cost control. What sets us apart is the combination of genuine high availability by design — not as an add-on — with automated failover, built-in disaster recovery, and continuous data protection across every node in the platform. And when something goes wrong, we’re the kind of company that actually answers the phone. For esports, that means every associated party can trust their cloud environment is ready when it’s time to play.
What are some of the innovative capabilities CloudKey brings to the esports industry?
Our platform enables scalable game servers that adjust automatically to player demand, low-latency streaming to global audiences, real-time analytics for teams and broadcasters, and centralized tournament management tools covering registration, matchmaking, and score tracking. Cybersecurity protections guard against DDoS attacks and data breaches throughout. Critically, organizations aren’t locked into spend commitments — spin up resources for an event, scale as needed, and shut down when it’s over.
What recent technological advancement are you most excited about, and how will it change esports?
AI, without question. Growing up playing 8-bit Nintendo, you could outsmart the AI by learning its patterns. Today that’s far more difficult — and that’s just the gameplay side. AI is also transforming the fan experience through real-time statistics, automated highlight generation, and smarter broadcasts. For organizers, it’s a powerful tool for detecting cheating and keeping competition fair — which is ultimately what everyone in this community cares about most.
What are the key benefits of your ESTA membership in terms of innovation and industry collaboration?
It gives us direct access to the community we’re building for. Before launching CloudKey, we conducted extensive market research and used customer feedback to build the right product. ESTA membership lets us apply that same approach here — staying close to esports athletes and organizers so our innovations are shaped by the people who actually need them.
