As the driving force behind The Game Changer Academy, Kendall has taken on the dual roles of professional development coach and mental health advocate, dedicating himself to mentoring the next generation of gamers. Tell us about yourself and your agency’s role in the esports market.

I’ve carved out a unique path in the gaming world, not just by playing but by contributing to the broader esports ecosystem. My journey started with dominating the virtual arena, especially in 3v3 Rocket League, where I became one of the top 10 players globally. But for me, it’s always been about more than just high scores and flashy moves. I’m on a mission to share my expertise and empower the next generation of gamers. As a coach, I’m not only helping young people and young adults level up their gaming skills but also teaching them how to turn their passion into a profitable career. That means mastering the art of streaming, understanding monetization on gaming platforms, and, most importantly, maintaining mental health and life balance. I dive deep into the gaming industry’s inner workings, uncovering hidden talents and helping gamers enhance their overall well-being. My goal is to support players in every facet of this exhilarating world, from skill development to life skills, so they can truly thrive both in and out of the game.

Can you highlight a few campaigns your agency has created that are tailored to the esports audience?

One of the key initiatives we’ve launched involves speaking at middle and high schools. In these sessions, we inform students about the incredible opportunities and the unique challenges of being part of the gaming arena. We don’t just focus on the excitement of esports; we also address the importance of mental wellness and maintaining a healthy life balance while gaming. It’s crucial that young gamers understand how to pursue their passion in a way that’s sustainable and healthy, so we make sure to provide them with the tools and knowledge to do just that.

How do you approach marketing in an industry as dynamic as esports?

When approaching marketing in the dynamic esports industry, I focus on several key strategies to ensure success. First and foremost, understanding the audience is critical. I conduct comprehensive research to gain insights into the demographics, preferences, and behaviors of the esports community. This includes tracking trends, game preferences, and engagement patterns across various platforms. By staying attuned to what resonates with the audience, I can tailor marketing efforts to meet their specific needs and interests.

Next, leveraging the power of social media and content creation is essential. The esports community is highly active online, and platforms like Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram are where they engage the most. I prioritize creating engaging, high-quality content that showcases the excitement of esports, highlights key players and events, and fosters a sense of community. Collaborations with influencers and professional gamers are also crucial, as they have established credibility and a direct line to the audience.

Additionally, staying adaptable and innovative is vital in an industry that evolves rapidly. I continuously monitor market trends and emerging technologies, such as virtual reality and augmented reality, to explore new ways of engaging with the audience. Hosting virtual events, tournaments, and interactive experiences can provide unique opportunities for brand visibility and audience engagement.

Lastly, data-driven decision-making is at the core of my marketing approach. By analyzing metrics and performance data, I can refine strategies, measure the impact of campaigns, and make informed adjustments to optimize results. This iterative process ensures that marketing efforts remain relevant and effective in the ever-changing landscape of esports.

Which campaign are you most proud of, and what impact did it have on your client’s objectives in the esports industry?

The process of learning how to be well in the midst of high-intensity competition and helping others achieve the same involves several key components. First and foremost, it starts with self-awareness and understanding the physical and mental demands of esports. High-level competition requires not only exceptional gaming skills but also the ability to manage stress, maintain focus, and recover quickly from setbacks. Developing a balanced routine that includes regular exercise, a nutritious diet, and adequate sleep is crucial for maintaining overall health and peak performance.

Mental health plays a significant role in competitive success. Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, and cognitive behavioral strategies can help manage anxiety and improve concentration. Regularly assessing one’s mental state and seeking professional support when needed ensures that stress does not become overwhelming. Additionally, fostering a supportive environment where players can openly discuss their challenges and seek advice can significantly enhance their well-being.

Equally important is the concept of continuous learning and adaptation. How long has your agency been a member of the Esports Trade Association? What prompted your agency to join, and how has the membership enhanced your understanding or engagement with the esports industry?

We joined the Esports Trade Association in 2024, driven by the rapid growth and evolving nature of the esports industry. We recognized the immense potential here, along with the unique challenges that come with it, and wanted to be part of a community that’s at the cutting edge of industry developments.

Since becoming members, our understanding of the esports landscape has deepened considerably. The association has provided us with invaluable insights and resources, which have been instrumental in helping us navigate and contribute to the industry more effectively. The events, webinars, and networking opportunities offered by the association have connected us with some of the brightest minds in esports—leaders, professionals, and innovators who are shaping the future of the industry.

These interactions have exposed us to diverse perspectives and kept us up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices.
