How did you get started in esports?
I learned about the opportunities in the space while attending the annual Sports Lawyers Association conference. I then began networking with other professionals in the space, and making connections with people that also have or had a background in traditional sports.
Since you’ve entered the esports industry, what has been the biggest industry change or trend that you’ve seen?
I have seen vast recognition for the wealth of opportunities available, and the following of various titles. I think that the current pandemic has provided a unique opportunity for new fans to begin following the industry, and for there to be interesting events that involve individuals from outside the industry. This has brought esports into a more prominent place in our culture, and created new avenues for the industry to grow.
What work has the company done within the esports industry?
We have recognized the synergy between traditional sports and the esports industries and determined how we are able to offer our services to entities and individuals within the industry. Having assisted with various legal issues in the sports industry, I have realized that our services, especially in being a resource to assist new agents can be beneficial to protecting the rights of the athletes.
From your perspective, what would you like to see the esports industry do better?
I think there should be a greater outreach to integrate with traditional sports and sponsorship entities. While esports has succeeded on streaming platforms, I would like to see more events broadcasted on television in order to further increase viewership and raise awareness for the industry.
What do you imagine the state of the esports industry will be like in 10 years?
I think the industry will be the next large entertainment industry, adapting various aspects of other industries to offer a unique opportunity for fans to follow their favorite athletes and connect with the athletes via various avenues that provide a model for traditional sports athletes to follow to uniquely engage with their fans and followers.
